Severe tornado-spawning storms tore through the south-central United States overnight Saturday, killing at least 15 people.
The storms left a trail of devastation in parts of Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, damaging hundreds of buildings and homes. President Biden said in a statement that he and first lady Jill Biden were “praying for those who tragically lost their lives."

A Virginia State University student was killed in an off-campus shooting Sunday night, according to authorities.
Daniel Wharton of Alexandria was a 19-year-old computer engineering major, a university spokesperson said. Police were called to the University Apartments at Ettrick, near VSU’s campus in a suburb of Richmond, shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting, authorities said.
Officers said they found Wharton suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, according to Chesterfield County police. Read More...
Austin Shirley, 28, died in a single-vehicle incident just after 10 p.m. Thursday along Highway 25 North, just within Ware Shoals’ city limits.
He was going at a fast pace on Highway 25 in Ware Shoals, according to the coroner’s office. Austin was driving north when he crossed into the southbound lane, raced off the shoulder, and hit a tree.
